We are excited to announce that Dr. Sathesh Sivasankaran is joining the BAC! Sathesh is a broadly trained computational biologist, with over ten years of experience working on a large variety of next generation sequencing projects. Before joining the BAC Sathesh was a postdoctoral fellow at Iowa State in the Genome Informatics Facility and the John P. Hussman Institute for Human Genomics, Miller School of Medicine at the University of Miami. Sathesh completed is PhD in Microbiology and Bioinformatics in the Department of Microbiology at Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland. Sathesh’s primary interests are in developing data-driven analysis methods for various NGS and multi-omics integrative studies and using computational and statistical approaches to improve animal and human health.
We are excited to announce that Sarayut “Nine” Winuthayanon is joining the BAC as a scientific software engineer. Nine’s has an extensive background in IoT, embedded systems control, and automation development. His main interests are in developing tools and web applications for data science to help ease the computational burden of translational research. He has recently been working extensively in building automated applications to help with single cell analyses. The addition of Nine’s skill will help the BAC move forward several of it’s outstanding software workflow and web application projects that will benefit MU researchers across the campus.
The BAC is adding a new member to our team. Mary is joining us as a current student in the MU IDSI master’s degree in Data Science and Analytics program. Mary holds a B.S. in Biological Sciences where she graduated with honors for my research involving characterization of root anatomy of upland and lowland switchgrass ecotypes. Her research interests are wide! I love plant sciences and its intersections in sustainable agriculture and renewable energy. In addition, I’m passionate about getting involved in creating machine learning models that can better identify and predict health outcomes clinically. All in all, she is a data scientist that want to see data be applied in a more meaningful way that leads to a more promising tomorrow.
Mary is joining the BAC in partnership with NextGen Precision Health researcher Dr. Melissa Terpstra to work on building better biostatistical models and machine learning approaches to help understand Alzheimer’s disease.
We are excited to announce that Dr. Hong An has joined the BAC as a data scientist. Hong is a biologist focused on utilizing bioinformatics and computational tools to understand the evolutionary process in the human-mediated world. He hopes his research will help humans know more about their food and open new opportunities for crop breeding. Before joining the BAC, Hong earned his Ph.D. at the Huazhong Agricultural University, and then worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow and Research Scientist with Dr. J. Chris Pires at the University of Missouri. Hong brings extensively experience in plant sciences, genomics, and molecular biology to the core.
